More than 1,000 people worked at the Paris headquarters then.

By 1931, the money had been used up. Dior’s friends in the art gallery, asked him to draw and he took his first step at designing and drawing. His first job was with Lucien Lelong from whom Dior learned his craft(手艺).

In February,1947, Dior started the New Look in his first major Paris collection. He was backed by a famous textile producer, Boussac, who looked after the dollars, while Dior looked after the fashions. Dior knew nothing about cutting and sewing, but he was good at fashion design.

The New Look started an entirely different look to costume, with a tiny waist, a rounded shoulder and a shapely bust(胸围), usually with a low-cut neckline and a long full skirt. To women who had lived through the war years, the femaleness of the New look was a great success, for people were tired of tile extremely plain, wartime restrictive fashions.

It is said that dresses by Dior were “constructed like buildings”, but young people were attracted to his design, and all over the western world, manufacturers plunged(投入) into the production of his new style. Eating a diet high in processed food (加工食品) increases the risk of depression, research suggests. What’ s more, people who ate plenty of vegetables, fruit and fish actually had a lower risk of depression, the University College London team found.

Data on diet among 3,500 middle-aged civil servants (公务员) were compared with their emotional state five years later, a British journal reported. They split the participants into two types of diet—those who ate a diet largely based on whole food, which includes lots of fruit, vegetables and fish, and those who ate a mainly processed food diet, such as sweetened desserts, fried food, processed meat, refined grains and high-fat dairy products. After accounting for factors such as gender, age, education,

physical activity, smoking habits and chronic (慢性的) diseases, they found a significant difference in the future depression risk with the different diets.

Those who ate the most wholefood had a 26% lower risk of future depression than those who ate the least wholefood. By contrast, people with a diet high in processed food had a 58% higher risk of depression than those who ate a diet low in processed foods.

Study author Dr. Archana Singh-Manoux pointed out there was a chance the finding could be explained by a lifestyle factor they had not accounted for.

There was a paper showing a Mediterranean diet was associated with a lower risk of depression, but the problem with that is if you live in Britain, the likelihood (可能性) of you eating a Mediterranean diet is not very high.

Dr. Andrew McCulloch, chief executive of the Mental Health Foundation, said, This study adds to an existing body of solid research that shows the strong links between what we eat and our mental health.

He added people’ s diets were becoming increasingly unhealthy. The UK population is consuming less nutritious, fresh produce and more saturated (含饱和脂肪酸的) fats and sugars. 61. The text is mainly about ________.

A. the increasingly unhealthy diet of the UK population B. the link between processed food and depression C. the relationship between physical and mental health D. a healthy diet largely based on wholefood 62. What do we know about the participants?

A. They are of different ages from young to old.

B. They have been eating a less healthy diet these years.

C. Most of them prefer wholefood to processed food.

D. Those who ate wholefood generally were happier in the long term. 63. What can we learn from what Dr. Archana Singh Manoux said?

A. It is difficult for most British people to have a Mediterranean diet. B. The Mediterranean diet is the most healthy in the world.

C. Many studies have been done on the Mediterranean diet before. D. The Mediterranean diet is not good for depression. 64. Dr. Andrew McCulloch agrees that ________.

A. our diets are closely related to our mental health

B. the present study needs more facts and other information C. the UK population will become ill in the near future D. more saturated fats and sugars should be taken in 65. Why might the author have written this text?

A. To tell people what a healthy diet actually is.

B. To prove people’ s diets are increasingly unhealthy. C. To encourage people to cut down on processed food. D. To introduce some experts on the research team.

If you don’t want people to know too much about you, then you had better keep your fridge contents secret, according to a British market research document released last week.

Researchers peered (凝视) into the fridges of 400 people in Britain and compared the contents with the owners’ lifestyles. They claim to be able to classify the nation’s people by fridge contents.

They say those people can be separated into five categories: nutrition nerds (no social sense), food faddiest (whatever’s in style), martyr mums, fast food fanatics and restaurant regulars.

Nutrition nerds care much about what they put into their bodies. Their fridges are stocked with fruit, vegetables and healthy meat.

People in this category tend to be highly organized and usually work in law or accountancy. The vast majority is single, but if they have a partner, that person will be similar.

A fridge full of vitamins—enriched juices implies its owner works in media or fashion. They tend not to eat the foods they buy. Known as the food faddiest, they just want to be seen as purchasing the latest important things.

A fridge filled with everything from steak to frozen fish suggests the martyr mum. Her fridge tends to be stocked with every kind of product, except what she herself would want. This fridge hints at difficulty balancing family and work life.

Fast food fanatics always buy mineral water or soda pop. The nearest they will get to fresh fruit is

3

tomato sauce. Their fridges hint at someone who worlds hard and plays hard, also, someone who is not into long term planning.

Finally, a fridge filled with nothing more than a bottle of white wine and some sparkling mineral water implies an owner who is single, lives in a big city and enjoys the finer things in life. The fridge is empty because this person regularly eats in restaurants. 66. What can we know from the first two paragraphs?

A. Some researchers are fond of staring at other people’s fridges. B. People don’t want others to know about their secrets.

C. The food you put in the fridge has something to do with your personality. D. There are mainly five kinds of lifestyles among British people. 67. According to the passage, people who belong to food faddiest ________. A. don’t care much about money when buying things B. will try their best to stay healthy C. often stay up late to finish their job D. prefer to ask others about what to do next

68. Which of the following is true according to the passage?

A. “Nutrition nerds” are always organized and successful in their jobs. B. “Food faddists” like to stock their fridges with all kinds of vitamins. C. “Martyr mums” care themselves more than others.

D. “Fast food fanatics” usually do not stock their fridges with fresh fruit. 69. What will those who often dine out put in the fridge?

A. All kinds of food they like. B. Only something to drink. C. Fruit, vegetables and meat. D. Food rich in vitamins. 70. What is this passage mainly about? A. What people store in their fridges. B. Fridge contents and its owner’s secret. C. What we should store in our fridges. D. How to keep our fridge contents secret.

Our spiritual intelligence quotient (精神智商), or SQ, helps us understand ourselves, and live fuller, happier lives.

Though we're all born with SQ, most of us don’t even realize that we have it. Fortunately, you don't have to sign up for classes to learn how to improve your SQ. Here are some simple steps that can lead you to this new level of understanding.

Sit Quietly. The process of developing spiritual intelligence begins with solitude (独处) and silence. To tune in to your spirit, you have to turn down the volume (强度) in your busy, noisy, complicated life and force yourself to do nothing at all. Start small by creating islands for silence in your day. In the car, instead of listening to the music, use the time to think. At work, shut the door to your office between meetings, take a few breaths and let them out very, very slowly. Enjoy the stillness in your home after the kids are finally in bed.

Step Outside. For many people, nature sets their spirit free. Go outside to watch a beautiful sunset. If you are walking with the dog, take the time to admire flower in bloom; follow the light of a bird and watch clouds float overhead.

Ask Questions of Yourself. Ask open-ended questions, such as \choices? Where am I heading?\

But don't expect an answer to arrive through some supernatural form of e-mail. \immediate answer to my question,\says Reverend Joan Carter, a Presbyterian minister in Sausalito, California. “But later that day I suddenly find myself thinking about a problem in a perspective(角度) I never considered before.”

Trust Your Spirit. While most of us rely on gut(本能的) feeling to realize danger, spiritual intelligence pushes us, not away from, but towards some action that will lead to a greater good. 71. The passage is mainly about . A. what your SQ is and in what way it can benefit our life B. what your SQ is and in what way it can be improved C. the relationship between your SQ and your life D. advantages and disadvantages of SQ

72. The underlined phrase \ A. get your spirit relaxed B. keep up your spirit C. keep seated quietly D. change your spirit

73. From the passage, we can know that the most important thing to improve your SQ is . A. a peaceful mind B. deep thought C. spare time and hobbies D. good spirits 74. According to the passage, which of the following is True? A. Not everyone has SQ. B. You have to go to classes to learn how to improve your SQ. C. SQ leads us to take wrong actions. D. SQ can benefit our life. BACDB ABCCA BADCD 36-40:BBCAA 41-45:CDBAB 46-50:ABCDB 51-55:AACDB CBAD 61~65 BDAAC 66-70 CADBB BAA D
