Getting advice from friends who are older than you is more valuable than getting advice from friends your same age.

When my little sister, a music major student, wants to buy some clothes for her concert that held in the school, she never tells about them with me. Instead, she always asks the opinions of her classmates for the dress she should choose. Because, in her view, people who are older than her can not give valuable suggestions. I, however, totally disagree with it. Since I embrace that obtaining opinions from friends who are older than you is much more reliable than obtaining opinions from friends your same age.

One point I believe to be absolutely pivotal is the fact that those older friends have more experience than your age friends. Since many difficulties we are encountering in today’s world are the same as what the old people have met, especially in daily life, work and study, therefore following their advices is more likely to help us avoid some unnecessary mistakes. One particularly good example is that when preparing for the English test, I always have a hard time memorizing the English words. What’s worse, the vocabulary has been an obstacle to pass the final exam. Fortunately, it is the tips and tricks my elder brother taught me that

helped me classify the words and differentiate the similar meanings between them. Thanks to the help of my brother’s valuable study suggestions, I successfully memorized all the words about the exam within one week and got a excellent mark in the English final exam. So from the event that I experienced, obviously, the useful ideas from elder friends can give me a lot of help.

Additionally, the peers that can not offer us valuable suggestions which will lead us to waste a lot of time and solve the problems less efficiently. This is because their level of knowledge acquired the same as ours or is not more than ours and their suggestions given to us are what we can figure out easily and completely. An appropriate example is not very far to seek. Last year, when I was doing my homework including some complex issues about mathematics, I was almost stressed out about the annoying functions, formulas and equations. So I decided to get some advices from my classmate, Julia, who is absolutely enthusiastic to help others. On the contrary, things do not turn out as I wish. Julia and I complained about the difficulties of the paper the whole day and could not figure out a better solution to this puzzle. Eventually,I had to call my math teacher and asked her to do me a favor. Rather than getting useful advice from the peers, we usually waste

a lot of time complaining about the difficulties we face and can do nothing to deal with the problems.

Admittedly, some suggestions about the clothes and the use of new technology from the elder people are outdated. However, to a large extent, the rich experience of elder people can provide us meaningful advices and help us overcome the difficulties we are confronting. Moreover, asking peers for help always result in endless complaining and annoying chatting. Apparently, when asking for help, the advice from friends who are older than you is more useful than the advice from friends your same age.
