1 Colors everywhere Colors are everywhere, look around and see.

Orange is the color of the kite in the sky. White is a fluffy cloud floating up high.

Green is a tree that is covered with

leaves. Yellow is a sunflower blowing in the

breeze.

Red is a watermelon juicy and sweet. Blue is the bike I ride in the park.

Pink is my party dress I wear on special

days.

Blue and yellow make green. Red and yellow make orange.

My favorite color is brown.

2 What are things made of My desk is made of wood. The wood is smooth.

My scissors are made of steel.

The steel is shiny.

My window is made of glass.

The glass is clear.

My shirt is made of cloth.

The cloth is soft.

My cup is made of china. The china is fragile. My house is made of brick.

The brick is heavy.

My sweater is made of wool.

The wool is warm.

My kite is made of paper. The paper is light.

My dog’s coat is made of fur.

The fur is fuzzy. I like his fuzzy fur.

3 Grandpa’s farm “Cocka-doodle-doo.” It is morning on Grandpa’s farm.

“Cluck, cluck, peep, peep. I’m hungry,”

said the chicken.

“Baa, baa. I’m hungry,” said the sheep. “Quack, quack. I am hungry,” said the

ducks.

“Neigh, neigh. I am hungry,” said the

4 A pack of seeds Mum gave me a pack of seeds. “Plant them,”said Mum. I dug a hole in the soil.

I put the seeds into the hole. I covered the hole with soil.

I watered the seeds. I waited and waited.

I saw some stems. I saw some leaves. I saw some buds.

I watered my plants.

I saw some flowers. I watered my flowers. I picked my flowers.

I wrapped my flowers. “Happy birthday, Mummy!”

We put the baby in the shopping cart. We put strawberries and carrots in the

shopping cart. We put sausages and eggs in the

shopping cart. We put onions and bread in the shopping

cart.

“Here are the onions and bread. Here are the sausages and eggs.

Here are the carrots.” “But where are the strawberries?” “The strawberries are in the baby.”

A slow moving turtle paddles through

the water. A long black eel swims behind the

turtle. An octopus swims behind the eel.

A jellyfish swims behind the octopus. A blue fish swims behind the jellyfish.

A hungry shark swims behind the blue

fish. The turtle hides under the sand. The eel hides under a rock.

The octopus hides behind the seaweed. The jellyfish hides behind the coral.

The blue fish hides behind the shell. The hungry shark hides behind a

shipwreck.

Out come the turtle, the eel and the

octopus. Out come the jellyfish and the blue fish. Out comes the shark and has his lunch.

7 Stormy weather The storm is coming. The sky is black.

The rain starts to drizzle. The wind starts to blow.

The storm is here. The lightning strikes.

The thunder roars. The rain pounds the ground.

The wind blows the trees. The river overflows.

The lightning hits the tree. The storm is going.

The lightning stops. The wind stops. The rain stops.

The storm has gone. I can see a rainbow. I can see the sun. I can play outside.

Oh no! The storm is coming back.

8 Class Rules

Each day our class makes a sign

together. The signs help us learn class rules. These rules help us work together.

Look at the sign we made on Monday.

Be polite.

Look at the sign we made on Tuesday. Listen when someone else is talking.

Wednesday. Take care of other people’s things. Look at the sign we made on Thursday.

Wait your turn.

Look at the sign we made on Friday.

Clean up after yourself.

We put these signs around the

classroom. They remind us of the class rules.

9 New clothes

Dad and I are shopping for new clothes.

I said, “I want this shirt, please.”

Dad said, “Another time. Today we need to buy a shirt that will

keep you warm.”

We buy a warm shirt.

I said, “I want these pants, please.”

Dad said, “Another time. Today we need to buy jeans that will

keep you warm.”

We buy jeans.

I said, “I want this hat, please.”

together.

12 Sly Fox and Red Hen Red hen lived in a little house in a tree

Sly Fox lived in the wood And he was hungry. Sly Fox picked up his black bag.

“I’m going to catch Red Hen and eat

her,” He said. Sly Fox hid in Red Hen’s little house. Red Hen saw Sly Fox and jumped up

out of his way.

“I will catch you,” said Sly Fox, And he ran round and round and round. Red Hen’s head went round and round,

too.

She felt down into Sly Fox’s big black

bag.

Sly Fox ran into the wood. The big black bag was heavy and Sly

Fox sat down to rest.

Then he felt asleep.

Red Hen jumped out of the bag. Red Hen put some heavy stones in the

bag. Then she ran all the way home. Sly Fox tipped the bag into the cooking

pot.

The Stones fell splash into the hot water. \
