第三部分:阅读理解 (共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共10小题,每小题2分,满分20分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

A

IN the movie Finding Nemo (《海底总动员》), the orange clownfish (小丑鱼) was found and saved. Now scientists are saying that the real life fish species needs saving, too.

On Sept 13 last year, the Center for Biological Diversity in the US made a petition (请愿) to add the clownfish, along with seven other fish species, to the Endangered Species List. They hope that this action will prevent the clownfish from becoming extinct.

However , there is little evidence that clownfish numbers are currently dropping . So why are scientists concerned? Shaye Wolf is an animal scientist at the Center for Biological Diversity. She says scientists are worried due to the fact that coral reefs (珊瑚礁)are becoming unhealthy . “ We are asking for protection of the clownfish because it’s in trouble from climate change ,” Wolf told Time For Kids magazine .

Clownfish protect themselves from bigger fish by living in sea anemones

2

(海葵) that grow on coral reefs. However ,the reefs are now endangered by increased levels of acid in the ocean ,which comes from human pollution Scientists have warned that coral reefs are likely to become the world’s first ecosystem(生态系统) to disappear because of global warming.

The pollution also damages the clownfish’s sense of hearing , sight and smell .With damaged senses , young clownfish have trouble finding coral reefs to make their homes , Sometimes the fish can become so confused by the smells that they are drawn to their enemies by mistake . As a result , the rate at which clownfish are caught is five to nine higher , “The longer we wait , the harder it’s going to be to save these unique creatures,” Wolf said.

But this is not the only threat that clownfish are facing . They are also among the world’s most commonly traded fish species , accounting for more than 40 percent of all fish traded . And the trade won’t stop until measures are taken . This is what the center is trying to do ---get the fish under the protection of the law .

“We need to protect Nemo and all the other fishes that we care about ,” Wolf says . “As the reefs go, so do the fish that depend on them .

56. The author mentioned the movie Finding Nemo at the beginning of the article to ______.

A. show how a popular movie can help scientists learn more about the clownfish B. introduce the topic of protection of the clownfish C. inform people about how this special fish species lives

D. explain how real world fish are different from those in the movies 57. We can conclude from the article that ______.

A. the number of clownfish has been dropping quickly in recent years

B. the US government will soon add the clownfish to the Endangered Species List

C. the decrease in coral reefs has caused damage to clownfish’s senses

D. current law doesn’t provide enough protection for clownfish 58. Which of the following statements might Shaye Wolf agree with? A. The appearance of clownfish makes them difficult for their enemies to spot. B. Clownfish mainly depend on their sense of smell to find coral reefs. C. Trade of clownfish should be completely banned around the world. D. The protection of coral reefs is key to a variety of species in the sea.
