--A Church in a Fantasy World

General purpose: To inform my audience

Specific purpose：To introduce Sagrada Família to my audience

Central idea：A brief introduction about Sagrada Família; The history of Sagrada Família; The design of Sagrada Família.

Introduction

Ⅰ. Good afternoon my dear friends.

Ⅱ. Today I will introduce a fantasy building-- Sagrada Família to you, based on my research in its official website and Wikipedia.

Ⅲ. This building has been constructed for 130 years and become a symbol of Spain while it is incomplete. .

(Transition: Let’s figure out why the construction last so long and.)

Body

Ⅰ. Sagrada Família is a large Roman Catholic Church in Barcelona, Spain.

A. Funded by donations, the church was begun to build in 19 March 1882.

1. The money was raised from the society. That is one of the reason why the construction process is so slow.

B. In 1883, Antoni Gaudí assumed responsibility for its design, which he found the fantasy style for Sagrada Família.

1. Gaudí devoted his last 43 years to the project, and at the time of his death in 1926, less than a quarter of the project was complete.

2. Asked about the subject of the extremely long construction period, Gaudí said a remarkable word: "My client is not in a hurry. “

Ⅱ. According to Gaudí ’s design, the style of Sagrada Família is very different from standard churches.

A. Sagrada Família is a church with several parts.

1. Let’s take an aerial view of the church first.

2. The church consists of an apse in the east, a cloister which runs around the church, the transverse nave, the main nave and three façades: the Nativity façade to the East, the Passion façade to the West, and the Glory façade to the South (yet to be completed).

B. The façades play a very important parts in this building.

1. The Nativity façade was the first façade to be completed.

a. Dedicated to the birth of Jesus, it is decorated with scenes of elements of life b. Gaudí chose the most complicated façade to start and choose all the decoration on his own. Why? Because he was well aware that he would not finish the church and

that he would need to set example for others to follow.

2. In contrast to the highly decorated Nativity Façade, the Passion Façade is plain and simple.

a. Facing the setting sun, the rigid, angular form indicates the death of Christ.

3. The largest and most striking of the facades will be the Glory Façade.

a. The construction began in 2002.

b. Dedicated to the Glory of Jesus, it represents the road to God: Death, Final

Judgment, and Glory

(Transition: Today, Sagrada Família has been through 130 years. Follows Gaudí 's original idea and, just as he himself did, the best techniques are applied to make the building work safer, more comfortable and faster.)

Conclusion

Ⅰ. It’s very pity Gaudí couldn’t see his personal interpretation complete in the world. But we are very lucky.

Ⅱ. To mark the great work of Antoni Gaudí, the construction will be completed around 2026, the centennial of Gaudí's death.

Ⅲ. In the near future, we will see the whole fantasy world Light up.
