Fewer Americans are reading newspapers and more Americans are instead getting their news online, but television remains the leading source of news in the country, according to a survey.

Not surprisingly, younger people tend to get more of their news on the Internet, while older people use traditional media such as television and newspapers, the Pew Research Center's survey on the ways of getting news said. Pew said the results show an increasing change toward getting news online, but that there is now a fairly large group of better-off people that use both traditional and online sources to get their news. The Pew researchers referred to these people as integrators (整合者), and said they accounted for 23 percent of those surveyed, spending the most time getting news on a typical day.

“Like Net news consumers, integrators are highly educated. However, they are older.” the survey said.

Pew found that the largest group of news consumers — 46 percent of those surveyed — watch television for their news at all times of the day. This group is the oldest, with an average age of 52, with 43 percent unemployed. They are unlikely to own a computer or go online for news.

The group that relies most on the Internet for news is the youngest at a median age of 35. It is also the smallest group,at 13 percent of those surveyed. Fewer than half of them watch television news regularly.

The survey was conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates International. It surveyed 3,615 adults by telephone.

The rockets take astronauts and man-made satellites into space. The satellites are used for communication, weather monitoring and research. But how do satellites stay up without falling down?

There are two opposite forces acting on the satellite. One of them is the force of gravitation (地心引力), which tries to pull the satellite towards the earth. The other force is created by the rotation (旋转) of the satellite around the earth. This force tries to take the satellite away from the earth. With these two forces, the satellite goes round and round. The gravitational pull of the earth (the force which pulls everything towards the ground)is like a rope which keeps the satellite from flying away.

Everything that goes up has to come down. It is only a matter of time before a satellite comes back to the earth. As time goes by,the satellite loses its speed, which makes the gravitational pull stronger than the force pulling it away. This makes the satellite crash (坠落) down to the earth.

5.The force that pulls the satellite towards the earth is created by . A. the earth B. the satellite itself C. the rotation of the satellite D. the rope

As a reader, I as many other book lovers do, often leave with a long sigh after visiting a bookstore. The prices printed on book jackets keep reminding me how thin my wallet is.

The price of books is now so high that I hesitate (犹豫) before buying a book I love. Many people feel the same way. But I remember that only a few years ago, when I was a college student, I bought several books almost every month, using what was left out of the living expenses sent by my parents, and that was not more than 200 yuan.

- 4 -

But now that I am working and the money I earn is only used to support my own expenses, I find I can't afford many good books.

There is a saying, “Book lovers have no money, but rich people have no feelings for books.” This is exactly the case. Sometimes I wonder about who the books are published for, especially those books with beautiful hard covers.

It is said that usually, the listed price is more than twice as much as the book's cost and we can see high profits from selling books. But now there is a contradiction (矛盾). On one hand, readers who want to buy books aren't able to, while on the other hand, publishers and sellers suffer from the large stock piles of unsalable books being stored in their warehouses (仓库). This situation is also a disadvantage to intellectual property right protection (知识产权保护) because many books of bestsellers are sold at a lower price at some book stands.

The key to resolving that problem is to cut the price to an acceptable level to both sellers and consumers.

I wish sincerely that in the near future common readers like me could buy the books we want without worrying about the high prices too much.

9. The first paragraph of this article tells us that . A. the writer is one of those who can't afford to buy books B. many readers are too poor to buy expensive books C. the prices of some books are too high D. all of the above

10. The writer at college. A. was living a very simple life B. was very rich when studying C. often bought books when studying D. hesitated to buy anything but books

由第二段“But I remember that only a few years ago, when I was a college student, I bought several books almost every month ...”

11. From the fifth paragraph, we can see .

A. it's no good for publishers and sellers if the prices are too high B.publishers should have set the prices of books high C.booksellers can hardly earn their living by selling books D. the high prices of books were set by many factors

【答案】 A

12. The writer of this article wished . A. the prices of books would be low

B.the prices of books would be lowered down soon C.the prices of books could be acceptable

D.he could buy books without worrying about the prices
