四川英文简介A brief introduction of Sichuan Province

Sichuan Province, abbreviated to “Chuan” or “Shu”, is located in the southwest part of China. It is divided into 3 autonomous prefectures, 18 prefecture-level municipalities, covering an area of 48000 km2. The province has one of the most diversified ranges of ethnic groups in China, including Han, Yi, Zang, Miao, Hui and Qiang peoples, with total population of 8590,000. The provincial capital is Chengdu. Its outstanding personality and abundant products make it one of the most prosperous and richly-endowed regions of China. Therefore, the area has been known as “Heaven on Earth”.

The Sichuan has a varied topography; Mt. Gongga Shan is the highest peak in the province, rising to a height of 7,556m2. The climate is warm in east region and cold in west region. The eastern basin area has the warm and humid weather, which the yearly mean temperature is 16-18°C, and the western area has a highland continental climate, with the yearly mean temperature of 6-12°C.

With a long history and abundance of the famous mountains and rivers, the province is among the leading Chinese provinces in tourist industry. There are national major well-know scenic areas, such as Emei Shan, Gongga Shan, Xiling Snow berg, Siguniang Shan, Jianmen Shu path, South Sichuan Bamboo Sea, Qingcheng Shan-Dujiangyan, Huanglong Temple, Jiuzhaigou and Leshan Giant Buddha, in which the later four scenic area has been included in the World Heritages. Other scenic spots include Du Fu’s Thatched Cottages, Wuhou Shrine, etc. “Shangri-La” dao cheng (rice town), Xichang Satellite town are also famous.

The Sichuan, with increasingly fascinating charm, gives guests and visitors from the whole world a warm welcome.
