Let’s enjoy an English poem in the form of a song: Rhythm of the Rain and try to find out the rhymes and the rhythm.
Rhythm of the RainListen to the rhythm of the falling rain, Telling me just what a fool I've been. I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain, And let me be alone again. The only girl I care about has gone away. Looking for a brand new start! But little does she know that when she left that day. Along with her she took my heart. Rain, please tell me, now does that seem fair For her to steal my heart away when she don't care I can't love another, when my heart's somewhere far away.

I’ve saved the summer And I give it all to you To hold on winter mornings When the snow is new. I’ve saved some sunlight If you should ever need A place away from darkness Where your mind can feed.
And for myself I’ve kept your smileWhen you were but nineteen, Till you’re older you’ll not know What brave young smiles can mean. I know no answers To help you on your way The answers lie somewhere
At the bottom of the day.
But if you’ve a need for love
I’ll give you all I ownIt might help you down the road
Till you’ve found your own.

You / new; need/ feed; nineteen/ mean Way/day; own/ own The rhyming words in the last four lines are unusual because they are the same word although they each have a different meaning.

Translate the poem into Chinese.

I know no answers 我不知道有什么办法 way To help you on your way 帮你踏上你人生的旅程 The answers lie somewhere 办法也许就在某处 At the bottom of the day . 在白天结束的那个时刻
But if you ve a need for love 如果你需要爱 own I ll give you all I own 我会献上我的所有的爱 It might help you down the road 它也许能帮你踏上旅程 Till you ve found your own . own 直到你也找到属于你的爱
1. Who is the speaker in the poem and who is he /she speaking to ? Give reasons to support your answer.
It may be a parent speaking to ayoung adult child.
Reasons: Many of the phrases imply that the speaker is an older person who has experienced their own journey through life and who is offering love to the young person to help him/ her begin on his/ her own journey through life. For example, I’ve saved the summer and I’ve saved some sunlight . When the speaker says till you are older… he/she is implying that he/she is much older than the young person (that is, till you are older like me).
The parent also says that although he /she is older , he/ she does not answer the answers to life s questions (I know no answers to help you on your way) We know that the speaker is probably a parent because he/ she is offering the child unconditional love (but if you’ve a need for love, I’ll give you all I own). We know the son/ daughter is a young adult because the speaker refers to the time when you were but nineteen.
2. Which of the following is the closest to thespeaker s message? Give a reason for your choice.A. If it s cold, I ll warm you; if it s dark, I ll give you light;if you re hungry, I ll feed you; if you want to love , I ll give it to you . B. Although the future may be difficult for you, whenever you need warmth and love, remember I ll have some to give you. C. While you re away I ll remember your smile and I ll love you always. When you return, I hope you will love me.
