第三部分 阅读理解(共20小题,每小题2分,满分40分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项中选出最佳选项。 A

It’s almost bedtime. The detective in your exciting mystery book is just minutes away from catching the thief ( 贼 ) red-handed. And you’re wishing you could just read faster! Here, Spritz is set to change the very way you read.

Normally, when we read text, our eyes flow across words from left to right, and then downwards over the lines. And our brain works behind the scenes to make sense of what we read. The developers behind Spritz say that when we read, we spend close to 80% of the time just moving between words and only 20% actually processing them!

They state that our brain processes a word when it reaches the word’s OPR(最优识别视点)---this letter is highlighted in red. So Spritz rapidly flashes a single word at a time on a small viewing screen and all the red ORPs are lined up. This reduces eye movement and improves the speed of understanding the text.

Users of Spritz can adjust their reading speeds from 250 words per minute (wpm) all the way up to a 1,000 wpm. At the fastest speed, you can actually read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in just 77 minutes! A normal person averages 200—250wpm, and the result received from Spritz tests shows that

英语试卷 第4页 (共10页)

many had doubled their reading speed by the end of their experience.

The fact that we can read information faster sounds exciting. Many feel that Spritz could bring back the fine art of reading books. However, the same art of reading also involves emoting (表现情感)with the writer, and taking a moment or two to think about the situation. --- something not quite possible while Spritzing. Book lovers feel that the speed and separate words of Spritz destroy the softer emotions, especially in novels and short stories. On a more practical side, even a cough would cause you to miss a considerable amount of the display.

56.In Paragraph 1, the author mentions a book to ______. A. introduce a topic B. offer an argument

C. make a comparison D. describe an organization 57. According to the text, Spritz_____.

A. is very popular with book lovers B. shows readers words one by one

C. highlights important words in red D. allows its users to read at any speed

58. In the author’s opinion, Spritz might be_____.

A. helpful B. acceptable C. unsatisfactory D. uninteresting 59. What would be the best title for the text_____. A. Speed reading, one word at a time B. Spritz---a popular speed reader

C. How Spritz redesigns reading D. Reading makes a full man

Writing is not an easy skill. Not only does it require the ability to organize and express ideas in the mind, but it also requires the ability to get the muscles in the hands and fingers to form those ideas, letter by letter, on paper.

Experts say teachers and parents should suspect dysgraphia (书写困难症) if a child’s handwriting is unusually difficult to read. Letters might be sized or spaced incorrectly. Capital letters might be in the wrong places. The child’s hand, body or paper might be in a strange position. These can all be signs of dysgraphia. Spelling problems can also be related to the disorder.

Many people have poor handwriting, but dysgraphia is more serious. Dysgraphia is a neurological (神经系统的) disorder that generally appears when children are first learning to write. Writing by hand can be physically painful for people who have it. There are different kinds of dysgraphia. And it can appear with other learning disabilities, especially those involving language.

Experts are not sure what causes it. But they say early treatment can help prevent or reduce many

英语试卷 第6页 (共10页)

problems. For example, special exercises can increase strength in the hands and improve muscle memory. This is training muscles to remember the shapes of letters and numbers.

Children can try a writing aid like a thick pencil to see if that helps. Schools can also provide more time to complete writing activities or assistance from a note taker. Teachers could have students with dysgraphia take tests by speaking the answers into a recorder, or type their work instead of writing it.

Children with dysgraphia might be able to avoid the problems of handwriting by using a computer. Yet experts say they could still gain from special instruction to help them organize their thoughts and put them into writing. Such skills become more important as children get older and schoolwork becomes more difficult.

64. Which of the following statements is TRUE? A. Writing is both a physical and mental skill.

B. Poor handwriting must be caused by dysgraphia. C. There is no way to prevent dysgraphia. D. Only children can suffer from dysgraphia

65. Which of the following is not the possible symptoms of dysgraphia? A. Incorrectly sized letters. B. Wrongly placed capital letters. C. Low intelligence. D. Spelling difficulties.

66. Dysgraphia is more serious than poor handwriting probably because_____. A. it happens when children begin learning to write B. it makes one’s handwriting unusually hard to read C. it can cause disabilities in one’s hand or body D. it is some kind of disorder related to neuron

67. In terms of preventing or reducing dysgraphia, the author probably agrees that___? A. finding out the real cause of dysgraphia is the first step B. training and improving the muscle can be helpful

C. dysgraphia can be cured if people receive treatments early D. using modern technology or other aids is of little help D

Plant cloning has been an agricultural technique used by farmers and gardeners for centuries. Grafting (嫁接) is a common form of plant cloning. Many plants in nature actually clone themselves and reproduce sexually.

Cloned plants are much more predictable than normal plants, so their yield (产量) is more reliable. Cloned plants also reproduce faster, limiting the amount of time between planting and harvesting. It is also often cheaper to produce seeds through cloning than through traditional methods. Plants can essentially be optimized so that farmers or individual growers always have the best seeds available. With more yield at a faster rate, farms can produce more food for more people while decreasing overall costs.

Cloning can be used to wipe out diseases that previously killed off entire fields of crops. This would make plants immune (免疫的) to the kinds of diseases that farmers and gardeners around the world fear each year. Crop failures due to disease and virus could become a thing of the past. Also, plants that are near extinction can be brought back to life through cloning.

英语试卷 第7页 (共10页) Through cloning scientists can develop “super” fruits and vegetables of superior nutritional quality. This could make for a healthier population overall. This is already being done through selective pollination (授粉), and genetic cloning could take it to the next level.

By plant cloning we have a population of identical plants and all these plants equally suffer from the same diseases, but in nature the weak would die and the strong would survive. While there are some dangers to consider with plant cloning, there are plenty of benefits that could prove vital to the propagation (繁衍) of the human species.

68. The underlined word “optimized” in Paragraph 2 can be replaced by “ ”. A. enlarged B. produced C. perfected D. examined 69. According to the text, cloned plants A. have lower yield than normal plants B. need little care from people C. resist various kinds of diseases D. have a short growth cycle 70. What can we infer from the text?

A. The fruits produced by cloned plants taste much better. B. There are more cloned plants than normal plants. C. Plant cloning can disturb the laws of nature. D. People should avoid eating cloned fruits. 71. What is the main purpose of the text?

A. To warn the negative effects of plant cloning. B. To present different kinds of plant cloning. C. To predict the future of plant cloning.

D. To inform us about the advantages of plant cloning. E

Almost everybody likes to relax, to visit new places and see new things. Holidays are obviously great ways to do this. But is it better to go on holiday with family, with friends, or alone?

Holidays with family can be hard work and there can be many arguments. One friend told me that both she and her sister were in tears after arguing on holiday…before their flight had even taken off. Not everybody in the family wants to do the same things. In my own family, dad always wants to go to a museum, mum and Sister want to shop and I want to go to a coffee shop. The majority rules and we end up shopping. Traveling with family can be very cheap or even free, though, if parents pay.

Holidays with friends are not usually as cheap but money always pays an important role. It is normal for everyone to have different budgets and there needs to be a lot of compromises (折中), from where you stay, to where you eat. This inevitably(必然地)causes problems.

Nonetheless, traveling with friends can be incredible fun. When on holiday with friends you do different things than you do with family. It is also good for learning more about your friends, and sharing experiences together. Even though we spend a lot of time with our friends, traveling with them is different and a way to strengthen a friendship.

When choosing with whom to travel, there is another option: alone. Traveling alone has advantages over traveling with other people. For example, you do not have to compromise on money issues. You can choose what you want to do and it can also be a good opportunity to meet now people, especially when

英语试卷 第8页 (共10页)

staying in hotels.

Of course, traveling alone is not always good. It can be lonely and, sometimes, dull with on one to talk to. And, when at the bus station or airport, there is nobody to look after your suitcase when you want to go to the bathroom.

72. The author doesn’t think highly of traveling with family because___. A. holidays with family usually end up shopping

B. it is hard work to arrange routes for holidays with family C. the expenses are beyond control for holidays with family

D. it is not easy for family members to reach agreements on things to do

73. Which of the following is the main disagreement when traveling with friends_____. A. The issue of money. B. The condition of accommodation. C. The preference of food. D. The problem of making compromises. 74. What is mainly discussed in the 4th paragraph_____. A. Tips for traveling with friends.

B. The necessity of traveling with friends. C. The advantages of traveling with friends.

D. Things you can do when traveling with friends.

75. The author prefers to travel alone mainly because he/she____. A. does not want to share with others B. likes to have more freedom on holiday C. values the experiences of traveling alone

D. prefers to communicate with others at anytime

第Ⅱ卷(共 35分)

第一节 任务型读写(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)

阅读下面短文,根据所读内容在表格中的空白处填入恰当的单词。 注意:每个空格只填一个单词。

There are many things we all want --- a meaningful career, less stress, and maybe a little more happiness--- and try as we may, the sad truth for most of us is that they won’t happen. And for all of our trying, seldom do we stop to ask why. Yet we repeatedly make mistakes and finally cannot get what we really want. Here are just four things that might get in the way of what you really want.

You give up too soon. Getting what you want isn’t supposed to be easy. While you may think you deserve a great relationship now, maybe you haven’t truly learned how to develop one. It takes years of hard work after all. And so do most things you want. Yet, for most of us, we have wants, and then we have excuses. This is wrong. Instead, if our wants are truly great, we should keep moving forward to earn them.

You don’t take setbacks(挫折) well. Setbacks hurt but nobody can escape them in life. Yet, what do most of us do with setbacks? We focus on how painful they are. But we don’t focus on how to move through them---even use them---to push us forward. So setbacks are never the problem, but what you do with them is.

英语试卷 第9页 (共10页) You doubt yourself. You may want many things, but do you really think you deserve them? If you don’t, the doubt you have will direct everything you do. You’ll find excuses, give up too soon and listen to the critics. Getting what you want, after all, means you have to believe you deserve it.

You focus too much on what others think. Sure it matters. However, if it matters more than getting what you want, you’ll change your behavior to make sure you’re accepted by everyone else but yourself. So don’t be busy worrying about what others think, but keep going after what you want. Title Why don’t you get what you want? introduction ·Though we often(76)___to get what we want, we seldom stop to ask why. ·Repeating mistakes prevents us getting what we really want. (77)___ Suggestions You give up too soon. ·Realize that everything is(78)___to get. ·Don’t find excuses to give up but move forward to(79)___your wants. ·Realize setbacks are actually part of life(80)___. ·Avoid focusing on the (81)___they bring us; instead, use them to push You take setbacks badly. us forward. ·Realize the problem is not setbacks but the(82)___that we handle them. You aren’t confident. ·Believe you really (83)___to get what you want. You care too much about others’ Focus on (85)___after what you want instead of what others think of (84)___. you.
