从批评性话语角度分析美国主流报纸对中国世博会的报道

——以《纽约时报》为例

摘要

媒体报道通常都受到意识形态的影响,是意识形态“自然化”传播的重要途径。本文考察的是在非政治性事件的报道中蕴含什么样的意识形态,以及这些报道是通过什么样的方式承载意识形态的。

本文试图通过对世博会这一历史性事件的相关报道进行批评性话语分析,考察国外主流媒体在对世博会这一偏经济、科技属性的事件的报道过程中,是否更关注科技、经济以外的内容,他们是如何通过对世博会的呈现来构建中国形象的,而这个中国形象又是什么,报道的内在话语逻辑如何,是否渗入西方意识形态因素,以及如何渗入这些因素等问题。正是本着这样的目的,本文选取了《纽约时报》关于世博会的14篇负面倾向的报道作为样本,运用批评性话语分析的方法,对样本进行文本层面、文本实践层面和社会实践这三个由微观到宏观层面的分析。

研究发现:《纽约时报》的负面倾向报道都是在“政府好大喜功-人民利益受到侵害”这样一个批评性的框架下展开,在这个框架中,政府/官方被描绘为强权的、好大喜功的、不民主的强势形象,与其相对的人民则以是弱势的、权力受侵害的、愤怒的被动形象出现。这样的形象塑造反映了《纽约时报》以“强权—民主”这样的政治形态来划分世界上的国家,将中国与西方放在对立面上的意识形态,依然延续着冷战时期的思维。

ABSTRACT

Media reports are often affected by ideology and it is a very important Approach to disseminate ideology. The main purpose of this paper is to discuss what kind of ideology has been implanted into the reports of non-political event and Through the what kind of the way.

This paper is trying to analyse the reports of world expo using critical discourse analysis, probing how American mainstream newspaper conducted the reports about Shanghai world expo: an event about economy, science and technology; what kind of china image were they trying to establish and how they established; what kind of ideology were they trying to implant into the reports and how they Permeated the Ideology into the texts. With such purpose, this paper selected 14 Negatively-Biased reports about Shanghai world expo from New York Times as samples, using critical discourse analysis to conduct analysis from Text, Text practice to social practice level to study the samples.

Study shows: all 14 Negatively-Biased reports about Shanghai world expo shares the same Critical framework: chinese government is fond of grandiose projects and

people's interests are violated. In this framework, government has been portrayed As over-powerful, fond-of-lies, undemocratic; and people's has been described As weak, angry and passive. This images reflects that New York Times try to use "power--democracy" such political form to differentiate nations of the world, and the ideology of put china in the opposite position of the west, remaining the cold-war think habit.
